“As many folks know, I recently purchased one of those new-fangled digital SLR cameras, so now I can participate in the 21st century with the rest of you hooligans. Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t switched to digital, I just use the thing now and again when I’m low on film or something. You might could call me, bi-formattial. You probably call me other things too, but that’s another thread….
So how do you go about swinging both ways like me? Perhaps you’ve only ever used a dSLR, or, perhaps you’ve only ever used a dSLR and those yellow, disposable things from Wal-Mart. How do you make the leap into the scary forest of film photography from the safe, happy world of digital? Well, one way is to attend the
FILM-O-RAMA WORKSHOP
presented by the Fuzzy Bunnies and yours truly Shot P. Gun
Models and special guests will be in attendence!
Date: Saturday September 18, 2010
Time: 12:30pm-5:00pm
Location: StudioPlex, 659 Auburn Avenue Northeast Atlanta, GA 30312
Cost: $30
Requirements: None. If you have a film camera already, bring it. If not, come anyway and we’ll loan you one. Don’t bring film!
Maximum attendees: 12 (minimum 6)
We’ll spend the first hour or so in instruction. This will not be to teach you to be a better photographer, you’re already a better photographer than me anyway. This will be to explore the world of vintage photo gear, what it is, how it works, where to find it, how much it costs, and all the stuff you need to know to save a ton of money and have a ton of fun. We’ll learn about the differences between film and digital capture media and what you’ll have to look out for that you might not expect. We’ll even have a counselor on hand to help you through the pain of not having an LCD display to look at for the day.
We’ll also cover work-flow for a film/digital hybrid process, what to do with your images after you shoot them, how and why to scan, archiving and all that jazz.
We’ll spend the next hour or so outside shooting around downtown, so if you have a film camera already bring it with you. If not, SEVERAL CAMERAS WILL BE PROVIDED! Additionally, FILM IS PROVIDED TOO! FOR FREE! courtesy of our partner in crime, Kodak USA.
Hey, Shotgun, what about the APG model shoot stuff, how’s THAT work on film?
Glad you asked. We’ll spend our third hour back in the studio shooting a model under strobes. We’ll learn how to transfer the knowledge you already got from APG and LightMojo to a camera with no histogram display. You’ll learn the right way, the tricky way, and the DIRTY TRICK way. Our model is still TBA, but we’ll have one, no worries.
Then, we’ll spend the remainder of the time dropping over by a local film processor so we can see what we shot and chat about what we learned. And guess what? FILM PROCESSING WILL BE FREE TOO! Covered in your signup fee will be one roll processed, with prints and a CD of digital images from your negatives.
By the time you leave, you’ll know everything you need to know to start shooting film, buying film gear and having twice as much fun with your photography as you did before.
Hell yeah, I’m in! How do I pay?
You can sign up here on this thread and pay one of two ways: either via PayPal to jpvanhoy@gmail.com or, if you wish, you can pay at the door in cash. When you sign up, let me know if you need a loaner camera for the day. Obviously paying in advance reserves your spot and camera.”
